Cookie Policy
Last updated: May 20, 2026
This page lists every cookie set by gatorgeeks.com, what it does, how long it lasts, and how to refuse it. We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or third-party trackers.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file your browser stores on your device. Sites use them to remember settings, keep you logged in, and measure usage. Cookies cannot run code or read other files on your device.
Cookies we set
Strictly necessary
These keep the site running. They cannot be disabled without breaking core functionality.
- wordpress_logged_in_* — Identifies a logged-in admin (only set if you log into the dashboard). Lasts the session.
- wordpress_test_cookie — Checks whether cookies are enabled. Lasts the session.
- wp-settings-* — Stores admin UI preferences. Lasts 1 year. Only set for logged-in admins.
Functional
These remember non-essential choices.
- cookie_consent — Records that you accepted or dismissed the cookie banner so we do not show it again. Lasts 12 months.
Analytics
We use first-party analytics to count visits and understand which Field Notes posts are read. Data is aggregated and not used for advertising.
- ph_* (PostHog) — Anonymous session ID for counting visits. Lasts 12 months. Set on a first-party domain. No cross-site tracking.
What we do not set
No Google Analytics. No Facebook/Meta Pixel. No advertising or retargeting cookies. No third-party trackers. No social media share-button trackers (we use plain links instead).
Cookies from third parties
The site loads resources from a small number of third parties, listed below. Each may set its own cookies governed by its own privacy policy:
- Cloudflare — CDN and security. May set __cf_bm for bot management (30 minutes).
- YouTube — Only set if you play an embedded video. We use privacy-enhanced embeds (youtube-nocookie.com) where possible.
How to control cookies
You can refuse non-essential cookies from the cookie banner the first time you visit. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Safari: Settings → Privacy
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent some site functions from working. Blocking analytics cookies has no effect on functionality.
Changes to this policy
If we add, remove, or change a cookie, this page is updated with a new last-updated date. The cookie list above is the source of truth.
